The INNIO customer app was build B2B customers to simplify the maintenance of bio gas engines remotely & hassle-free.
INNIO Jenbacher, a leading energy solution provider specialising in gas engines and power equipment for sustainable and efficient energy solutions, sought to simplify engine maintenance for biogas farmers. As the sole designer on this project, I was tasked with creating a user-friendly iPhone app that would allow farmers to monitor their engines, receive alerts, and manage maintenance schedules efficiently. This user-centred approach, combined with a modern design aesthetic that incorporated Innio’s brand identity and key features like light and dark modes, resulted in an app that empowers farmers to efficiently manage their engines.
Delivered a user-centred mobile application that successfully streamlined engine maintenance for a niche market.
Empowered farmers with an efficient solution that optimises their workflow and reduces engine downtime.
Implemented an easy to use information architecture with an intuitive flow and developed a dark and light mode.
The final design, which included real-time engine monitoring and proactive maintenance alerts, provided potential benefits like reduced operational costs and optimised performance for biogas farmers.
The project presented several challenges, including the niche nature of the industry and the need to justify a new app within INNIO’s existing ecosystem of multiple apps. As the sole designer, I had to conduct extensive research to understand the market, competitors, and technical aspects of the engines. Additionally, I faced limitations in user testing due to a lack of available user data.
The design process followed a thorough, sequential methodology. It began with a Kickoff Workshop and stakeholder interviews to align objectives and gather initial requirements. Following this, I created Stakeholder Maps to visualise the target audience and identify key decision-makers.

To ensure the design addressed core business value, I developed Jobs-To-Be-Done (JTBD) statements, shifting the focus to the farmers' primary goal: minimising downtime and maximising engine efficiency. This strategic foundation informed the next stage, where I Visualised the Information Architecture (IA) and established key navigation tabs (engine overview, maintenance history, calendar, settings).
I then moved into execution, creating the first Wireframe Drafts with iteration through an intensive low-fidelity prototyping process to validate the navigation and user flows. For the visual identity, I developed and changed the Material You Framework to align with Innio's specific brand colours and style. A crucial accessibility feature was the development of Dark and Light Themes.
Finally, I created the Visual Design and functional Prototypes using consistent iconography and adapted buttons, which were then taken to Test Prototypes with Stakeholders to validate the final flows and features before development handover.
The INNIO Customer App project resulted in a user-friendly mobile application that streamlined engine maintenance for biogas farmers. By conducting thorough user research and stakeholder interviews, I gained a deep understanding of the users’ needs and challenges. This user-centred approach, combined with a modern design aesthetic that incorporated Innio’s brand identity, led to an app that was both functional and visually appealing. Ultimately, the app empowered farmers to efficiently manage their engines, reducing downtime and optimising their operations.
